Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs)
An IRA is an account that allows an individual to save for retirement with tax-free growth or on a tax-deferred basis. The different types of IRAs each have different advantages:
A Traditional IRA is a way for you to save for retirement that gives you tax advantages. You can contribute up to the defined amount limit each year, and may be able to fully or partially deduct the contributions on your tax return. Your earnings can potentially grow tax-deferred until you withdraw them in retirement.
A Roth IRA allows you to make contributions with money you’ve already paid taxes on (after-tax), so your earnings grow tax-free. When you retire you get to enjoy your earnings tax-free, but unlike Traditional IRAs, Roth IRAs are not tax-deductible.
